7 tips for Beautiful Clashing Patters

How To Wear Patterns is knowledge is bound to come in handy this season. Mixing and matching patterns is a trend that is really taking off. It’s a look that has dominated the runways and can also easily be achieved on a budget. It can be a difficult look to pull off so knowing how to wear patterns wisely is the key to success. Check out the following few tips for how to wear patterns.

1. Work In Monochrome

An effective way of putting together an outfit of mixed patterns is to work in a monochrome colour palette. This will soften the impact of any major colour clashes. Geometric prints in a black and white colour palette are great for achieving a retro inspired look. Mixed patterns in a singular colour also look great as well.

2. Big/Little

Another tip for how to wear patterns is to combine big and little patterns in the one outfit. Do this by balancing out bigger, bolder patterns with smaller more subtle ones. From far away you might not be able to notice the smaller pattern, but closer inspection will reveal otherwise. These sorts of details are great for creating outfit ‘surprises’.

3. Same Pattern, Two Ways

An easy way to wear clashing patterns is to wear the same pattern but in different styles. For example team a horizontal striped top with a vertical striped skirt. Or a subtle spotted blouse with a full polka dot skirt. Teaming the same pattern in different color ways is also an inventive way to work this look.

4. Clashing Florals

Floral on floral is a trend that is sure to be in full swing before next spring comes around. Get in early and try out this trend now. A floral blazer teamed with floral trousers can be broken up with a plain white t-shirt. Choose vibrant and more abstract patterns to prevent yourself from looking like a daggy 90s floral couch.

5. Complementary Colors

While mixing patterns is about creating a ‘clashing’ effect, keep it easy on the eye by pairing together patterns in complementary colors. Your outfit will appear much more thought out this way. When thinking about how to wear patterns this way, look at the season’s best color combinations and use them as a basis for your pattern clashing adventures.

6. In Pastels

If you want to minimize the ‘clashed’ effect, try teaming together an array of pastel patterns. This is ideal for those who still want to dip their toes into the trend without it being to full on. For a feminine touch, team together floaty patterned fabrics.

7. Don’t Be Afraid

While these previous tips on how to wear patterns will help you on your way to creating an artfully clashed outfit, don’t be afraid to look outside the square and experiment with crazy and kooky patterns. Who knows, you might just stumble upon a completely unique combination that looks amazing. To anchor an outfit of bold and bright patterns, team them with neutral or monochrome accessories.

Creating the ultimate pattern clashing outfit should be made a bit easier with these tips on how to wear patterns. It might take a bit of experimentation, but it’s a fun way to wear all your favorite patterned garments. What are your best tips on how to wear patterns?

Summer 2013 Fashion Trends

Hello Ladies!

My apologies for no blog the week before, I had been battling strep throat and was very sick. Anyhow, it gave me some time to pick out what the Summer 2013 trends are turning out to be. Get ready, here we go!

Leather- Maybe not the best choice to wear in an Arizona summer, but hey beauty is pain and sacrifice, right? Leather might seem contradictory in the summer, but this luxe fabric will make any outfit look expensive (just make sure you don't go head to toe in the material).

Power Clashing- Anything goes with this fashion trend! The trick to wearing mismatched prints is to make sure the sizes of the patterns are different so the clashing looks intentional.

Overalls- Overalls aren't just for kids anymore. They have been seen all over the runways, and the latest take on the jumpsuit is the easiest (and most comfortable) piece for summer.

Lucite Heels- The modern Cinderella Shoe! If it's clear, it's a go this season.

Holographic Clothes & Accessories
If your accessory blinds you, then you've got it right. Anything mirrored and shiny is perfect for the warmer months.

Bold Stripes- continued from the spring trends! Stripes are always in fashion, but this year try something bold à la prison uniform.

Midi Skirts- Forget maxi skirts, this season is all about the midi skirt. This new, slightly shorter length is perfect to wear around the office.

Crop Tops- This '90s trend is out in full force this season -- if you dare to try this bold look we suggest you pair it with loose fitting bottoms.

Sporty Clothing- Even if you're not headed to the gym, throw on a sporty dress or a pair of sneakers this season. Not only is this trend comfortable but your mesh garments won't require dry cleaning.

Pastels- continued from spring trends! Toss your black suits and grey sweaters, it's all about light, soft colors.

Whatever you are looking for, we are sure to have it here at Oohlala Boutique! I hope you found this all helpful and we'll meet again next week! Be sure to come by the store and sign up for our weekly text message alerts on sales, specials and events happening! We're also on Facebook!

What is your fashion Vision?

I recently went to a seminar about creating your own "Brand" and "Vision" of what we are, want, or stand for. Then I thought to myself, what does my Brand say about me? How do I want to be perceived? What do people see or think of me on an every day basis? This seminar helped me create that spark to really define my own "Brand" of self.

when you look in the mirror what do you see? Are you happy with that image looking back at you? When it comes to fashion and your desired look- are you looking the part or do you need a little help? Did you know that some of the best places to get fashion advice is the stores who carry your desired look? Some of my favorite places to shop all encourage their shoppers, like we do, to ask questions. What styles are in, what type of clothing looks most flattering on your body shape, what would really show off your best features?

When it comes to Oohlala, we go out of our way to make sure we bring you the latest styles and trends. We keep up and are knowledgeable about colors flatter your hair, eyes, style and skin tone. Our business is to make you look good. If you walk out of the store with a smile on your face and that feeling of "I just can't wait to wear my new outfit" then our job has been done.

Now, just for fun, I came across a quiz on a website about "What does your clothing style say about you". Its nothing serious, just some good ol' fashion fun. You know these silly quizzes are a secret addiction. Enjoy!
